Documents Related to the Applicant
- Application for Permission of Naturalization
- Curriculum Vitae (Resume)
- Statement of livelihood overview (household and financial situation)
- Certificate of residence (Jūminhyō) showing all household members
- Copy of passport and residence card
- Tax payment certificates (past 5 years recommended)
- Certificate of payment of social insurance premiums
- Proof of income (such as withholding tax slip, pay statements, etc.)
- Statement of reasons (explaining why naturalization is desired)
Documents Proving Family Relationships
- Family register (koseki tōhon) (if the applicant has a Japanese spouse)
- Marriage certificate and/or birth certificates (if there are children)
- Copy of the residence cards of the spouse and children
Documents Related to the Applicant’s Country of Origin
(such as documents required for loss of nationality)
- Birth certificate
- Marriage certificate (if required)
- Certificate of nationality (issued by the embassy in many countries)
- Criminal record certificate / Certificate of no criminal record (required depending on the country)
